Stop sniggering! Yes, whilst the name of this ‘muck’ chucking physics-based puzzler may seem overly amusing to our more immature readers/editor, I can assure you that there’s absolutely nothing funny about having to feed crystals to a “spunky little blob” or having to “pull gooey globs of muck” in an inhospitable environment to escape the oncoming Welk Guard enemy. I said stop sniggering!
Right, have we got that out of our collective system? Honestly, you’re like children! Good, so moving on from the fact that KizStudios may have missed the euphemistic merriment to be found in the pseudo-dirty details of the latest development to roll out of their offices in the town of – wait for it – Cumming, Georgia, the app itself is packed with cartoon-like humour and engaging gameplay that immediately makes you forget the filth milling through your mind.
Essentially Angry-birds-esque, it’s all down to using gravity to catapult your little character across hazards using the elasticated muck of the moniker, collecting crystals to feed to and grow your gelatinous chum as you go, and avoiding any interaction with the omnipresent guard adversary who will, if they get their mitts on you, kick you very literally off the screen.
Colourful and creative, graphics are detailed and gameplay smooth with a simple one-finger-drag system of control, whilst the combination of the complexity of the puzzles and the don’t-go-too-far-wrong dotted trajectory lines (à la Angry Birds) suggest it’s aimed at a younger market rather than hard-core physics-fans.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Good, distracting fun, pop up ads do occasionally annoy and disrupt, but such is the price of the free app. Amusing, entertaining and less than taxing, Chuck the Muck and its spunky blobbery is a great game for the garden now that what passes for summer in the UK is finally here.
