The Cube Escape series presents memory cubes that detail the strange happenings around Rusty Lake. Earlier this year, Cube Escape Birthday launched as the seventh game in the Cube Escape series. Now, there’s Cube Escape Theater, and the eighth in the series maintains the puzzle adventure style with an all new memory cube to experience. All of the games in the Cube Escape series are tied to a single narrative of varying memories that span different years, and areas around Rusty Lake. Each game offers a striking visual design with memorable, and somewhat shocking sequences.
Cube Escape Theater doesn’t go about reinventing the wheel, and instead focuses on continuing what makes the other games so good. There’s an all new engaging storyline with a six part play that you get to interact with to see the full presentation. The game features an eerie atmosphere as you tap on various objects in the given room to find out what you can interact with, and what clues there are. Cube Escape: Theater nails the idea of allowing the player to pick up a string, and follow it through the entire game as each puzzle is interconnected with solutions pushing you forward.
The Cube Escape formula is familiar to others in the series, and others in the genre, but that doesn’t stop Cube Escape: Theater from being an engaging experience. The puzzle style uses similar mechanics, but each puzzle is still a nicely crafted challenge that is neat to see take shape towards a solution. The storyline in Theater presents a familiar cast of characters, but in an all new situation for continued intrigue that can also act as a stand along story. The best part of all of these games is that they can be played as one time experiences, but you gain extra knowledge from the overall series. Cube Escape: Theater is only about an hour at most, but you do lose track of time as you become immersed in the puzzles and story.
Cube Escape Theater (Free, Universal) is a new entertaining installment in the Cube Escape series that is well worth picking up for a one time puzzle adventure experience, or a continuation of the narrative.
