A report by Government-run Xinhua News Agency said on Friday that main culprits have been charged with intentional injury in a sensational and horrifying case where a Chinese Teenager Sells Kidney to Purchase iPhone and iPad in last year April. This news once again raises strong ethical concerns regarding many aspects like increasing materialism, lack of strong kidney-selling laws and regulations, increasing poverty, ethics of responsible surgeons and doctors, helplessness of kidney-seekers and growing illegal trade of human organs.The in-depth news is that so far about 5 people have been accused of intentional injury, in southern china after a teenager sold off one of his kidney to earn sufficient money to buy an iPad and iPod. What raises ethical question is the involvement of local surgeon who removed the kidney just to make some extra money.
The boy, who sold off his kidney, has been identified as Wang(surname), from Anhui which is one of the poorest provinces in whole China. Sadly the boy now suffers form renal deficiency since the transplant and his condition is deteriorating day by day. The person who arranged the transplant is said to receive 220, 000 yuan which he did split between surgeon, 3 other defendants after paying Wang about 22,000 yuan.
Like most of the countries, China too has banned illegal trading of human organs which obviously leads to a widening gap between the supply and demand of human organs to transplant.When questioned, the boy confessed that he agreed to sell his kidney with the help of a broker whom he met on an internet; in want of an iPhone and iPad. The other suspects who are believed to be involved in this case, are still being investigated.
