DC Comics has announced a new weekly single issue series titled “Futures End” that will be written by Jeff Lemire, Keith Giffen, Brian Azzarello, and Dan Jurgens. The series will jump five years into the future within DC’s current New 52 universe and examine how the heroes have changed. Launching in May with Issue #0 on Free Comic Book Day and will be the second weekly series that DC has announced after “Batman: Eternal” which will celebrate Batman’s 75th anniversary.
As a DC fan I think there’s a lot to be excited about for this upcoming new series. Based solely on this first cover image and Lemire’s affinity for high concept post-apocalyptic settings with his work on Animal Man and Sweet Tooth I think there’s a lot of potential for some great new stories and characters. Along with Jeff Lemire, the other creators attached to this series remind me of the massive undertaking that was 52. Artists confirmed so far include Ethan Van Sciver, Jesus Merino, Aaron Lopresti, and Jurgens.
I’m excited to see Batman Beyond get injected into New 52 continuity! What does everyone think of the cover and this new series?
