Digimon was a pretty big deal for kids a bit younger than me. My generation? We had Pokemon. The kids a few grades below? It was Digimon.
Digimon World released in 1999 in Japan and 2000 to a middling critical response. It was just plain okay, though it did some interesting things with the way players raised their Digimon partner.
Well, that series in the Digimon kingdom is continuing on the PS Vita. Digimon World: Next Order is set to release in Japan in 2016, and a few new screenshots show the game in high resolution action. Well, high resolution as compared to what we saw the first time around more than 15 years ago.
Yes, Digimon fans, it’s been that long. Next Order is actually a follow-up to 2011’s Re:Digitize, both below that Digimon World moniker, though the former launched for the PSP back in 2011.
For Digimon fans, this news could be awesome. For the rest of us, it could be a neat little monster battler for the PS Vita. That could work really well on the portable platform. We’ll see if it gets localized for the western world.
