Another release from the Sincerely team – the people behind snap-to-real-life app Postagram – to breathe life into your camphone snaps. Dotti is a cute concept that turns your smartphone into a disposable camera and lets you order prints straight from the app.
A beautifully simple idea, Dotti lets you snap 12 shots as if on a camera roll and lets you send off to be printed as 4×6 prints for $4.99 (or $5.99 outside of the US).
The controls are charmingly retro, and make this app a great one to share around at a family gathering – you “load up” a roll of film and you can then cycle through them as you snap, even seeing your images displayed in negative on the back of the cam.
Sound effects and controls are similarly low-tech and when you’ve finished your film and sent it off (through the wonderfully easy in-app control panel), your “camera’ will wind on as if loaded with new film.
And yes, of course you could always just take snaps on your Android handset and send off to print without the help of an app, but this makes the experience fun, friendly and communal.
Unlike real throwaway cameras, you can of course edit and delete images, although sadly you can’t load up any from other snapping apps on your handset, which is a shame. And unlike real throwaway cameras, we’d advise not binning your Android after
The Bottom line
A charming and well-realised app that the family will love. The prints are a touch on the pricey side, but a good gimmick for any family get-together.
