There’s a new Philips smartphone that resembles the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Grand i9082 in some aspects: it has a large display without having a high pixel density, it supports two SIM cards, and it runs Android.
The new handset is called Philips W8355. It features a 5.3 inch screen with 960 x 540 pixels, Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, 3G, Wi-Fi, dual-core 1GHz processor (of unknown provenience), 512MB of RAM, and a 5MP rear camera with LED flash – all in a case that measures 147.6 x 79 x 10.9 mm.
Of course, the Galaxy Grand i9082 has the advantage of running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, while featuring a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and an 8MP rear camera. But its display isn’t that great, measuring 5 inches and sporting 800 x 480 pixels.
The Bluetooth SIG suggests the Philips W8355 will be available globally. However, this sort of info isn’t always accurate. Most probably, the smartphone will be released only in China. We don’t know how much it’s going to cost, but it should be cheaper than Galaxy Grand. So there could be lots of users interested in getting the W8355 instead of Samsung’s giant dual SIM handset.
We will let you know if the Philips W8355 gets to be released in other markets than China.
