The Samsung Galaxy Grand was officially announced on December 18 as a rather odd smartphone: although its screen measures 5 inches, its pixel resolution is only WVGA (800 x 480). Samsung didn’t say exactly when the handset would be released, and neither for how much. But at the end of December Samsung Ukraine has issued a press release of its own – this went largely unnoticed, despite the fact that it contains the first official details on the availability and price of the Galaxy Grand.
According to Samsung, the smartphone will be released in Ukraine starting February, so other markets should expect to get it at about the same time. We must note that Samsung Ukraine is talking only about the Galaxy Grand i9082 – hence the dual SIM version of the device. The suggested retail price of the Galaxy Grand i9082 will be 4,444 UAH in Ukraine. That’s about €409, or $547 – way higher than you’d expect.
5 inch WVGA display aside, the Samsung Galaxy Grand features Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, HSDPA, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS with Glonass, Bluetooth 4.0, multi-window multitasking, 8MP rear camera with LED flash, 2MP front-facing camera, dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support (up to 64GB), and a 2,100 mAh battery. The handset measures 143.5 x 76.9 x 9.6 mm, and weighs 162 grams.
