When it comes to first person shooters for Android, there are many to choose from. However, if you’re looking for true, classic DOOM style play, there’s only one, completely free option that will scratch a retro-gaming itch. And that’s Evolution Multiplayer FPS, from FreezeNova.
It offers up the perfect combination of varied multiplayer maps, online leaderboards, and real opponents to play against.
For those whose interests have been piqued, continue on down the break for more information!
Concept and Gameplay
The core concept behind Evolution is the same as any other classic first person shooter: Run around the map blasting opponents as efficiently as possible, while not being killed yourself.
Along the way, pick up new weapons, power-ups and the like to better blast those that need it. Do this enough times, and with enough success, and eventually you’ll find yourself at the top of the leaderboard.
Evolution Multiplayer FPS Android Game
This is exactly what Evolution serves up, and then some. Here you can expect the standard amount of running mixed with an above average amount of shooting. That’s a good thing.
You’ll be playing against real, live opponents, too. The more you play the better the armaments at your disposal. You use these in the standard way: Use the joystick on the left to direct your avatar, use the buttons on the right to fire, reload, and perform other interactions.
Add to all this a large amount of multilayer maps, a great assortment of weapons, and a crazy incentive to climb the boards and you’ve got a truly classic FPS on your hands.
Design and Interface
We’ve been harping on the classic nature of Evolution, but nowhere is this more of a factor than in the game’s looks. It just feels like a true, blue, Doom-based title. It takes us right back to the glory days of shooting strangers online.
There’s the slightly pixelated, yet oddly detailed backgrounds. You’ll get the reload sequences and overly-dramatic weapons you always want. With the way the levels are designed, you can even expect a heaping helping of camping, waiting and sniping for extra kills.
It’s absolutely brilliant, and reminds us of everything we loved about the genre.
Likewise, the controls could not be any simpler. All of the buttons feel nice and ergonomic. Nothing is out-of-reach, and when you’re in the heat of the moment, that design is most appreciated.
Is Evolution the most feature rich FPS on the market? Not exactly, but where it lacks crazy, cutting-edge action points, it makes up for it with style.
This is a retro game that will make the blackest of hearts happy with shooting glee.
It’s a blast to enjoy, and you can do that without spending a single dime. To us, that’s an unbeatable bargain, and one that makes Evolution an easy recommendation.
Whether you’re a fan of the genre or not, you’ll find something to love here with Evolution Multiplayer FPS.
