Zen Studios makes some high quality digital pinball tables that have included Star Wars, The Walking Dead, Marvel characters, South Park, and more. Their latest effort ties into four Fox animated comedies with Family Guy, Archer, Bob’s Burgers, and American Dad. This review focuses on Family Guy Pinball in particular, and the table design really nails the Family Guy theme as you get to play in the Griffin’s living room. The game board is filled with ramps with each one tied to a different family member, and if you spell out their name, you unlock a mission tied to that character.
The table set-up allows for a fluid flow of action that allows for solid progression towards all that the table has to offer. This is one of Zen Studios best in terms of the accessibility of the different missions, and flow of the ball across the board. The same great Zen Studios pinball physics engine is included, and yet the game feels brand new as the table is nice and unique. One of the neatest features of Family Guy Pinball is that when you unlock a mission of one of the given characters, the pinball takes the look of the character, so Peter mode will outfit the pinball with green pants, white shirt, and a small twirl of brown hair. Zen pinball games often have animated characters on the edge of the board, and that’s no different in Family Guy Pinball.
Family Guy Pinball ($1.99, Universal) delivers a great game of pinball with a finely integrated and appealing theme that is well worth picking up. The four Fox pinball tables are tied together with an overall score, and you can pick up the tables as individual apps, or in-app purchases within the Zen Pinball app. It’s worth noting that the four tables don’t just simply offer the same mold with a different theme slapped on, and instead have their own unique board layouts and mission unlock system.
