One of the major reasons why I so dearly love Android is its customization options. The possibilities are limitless when using this amazing platform. Want to use the fastest Android launcher? You can do that. Want to use the fanciest Android launcher? You can do that too.
I love customization and I simply adore changing launchers. We have already covered a lot of great Android launchers before, but this article will dive deeper into the fastest Android launcher we have found.
Why This Launcher? Some people need things fast and they don’t care about aesthetics. For those who need to access their app drawer in a flash, APUS Launcher is the best bet. I tested the launcher mainly on a Galaxy Note 3 but it also works well on a number of budget smartphones as well.
Our Rating: 4.0
Google Play Rating: 4.4
The app has a lot of home screens, and transitioning between them is traditional but fast. The launcher also comes with a universal search bar which helps you not only in quickly searching for apps but general internet queries too.
The themes are remarkably different and actually refresh the whole outlook. The launcher makes a lot of things extremely simple, yes even simpler than most of the custom launchers OEMs (original electronic manufacturers) put on their phones.
Oh my goodness the ads! The only thing that makes the app a little annoying is the ads. They pop up with surprising frequency. I get that this is a business but you don’t need to cram ads down our throats all the time.
I thought there must be a paid version to get rid of the ads but unfortunately there is no such thing. I’m one of those people who will pay a fee just to remove ads from a regularly used app; this is not one of them.
The Bottom Line
APUS Launcher is the fastest Android launcher which works fast on almost every device. From budget Android phones to top tier devices, the launcher works fast and without consuming a lot of resources.
If you use only a few apps, this is as fast as it gets. If you have a lot of apps installed on your Android device (I have around 120) the launcher makes it easy to search for them with its great search function. The ads are a little annoying but if you can look past them then this is one of the fastest launchers for Android around.
Get Going Fast – 5 out of 5
After installing the app from the Google Play Store, simply launch it from your standard app drawer and you are ready to go. Depending on your phone you may see this screen when launching the app for the very first time:
Simply select APUS Launcher and it will become the default on for your Android device. From there you will be greeted with the following main screen some of the most needed features nesting right on it.
Even though this is very simple, there are no actual tutorials which pop up to help. I tried to find some help text but failed to do so. However I have sent feedback to the developer a few days ago, yet there was no reply.
Faster Than Flash – 5 out of 5
APUS launcher is indeed the fastest Android launcher around. I have been using Nova launcher for a very long time and have experienced lag first hand on TouchWiz UI too. Honestly speaking APUS launcher never stuttered for a second.
Loading long lists of apps is always a strain on system resources, but this launcher didn’t skip a beat. Everything you do on this launcher is lightning fast. The app is not completely flawless though, I experienced minor stutters when using it on a Galaxy Young budget smartphone and that only happened two times in four hours of usage. But considering the sad state of Samsung’s launcher, this is a vast improvement.
Classy Customization – 3 out of 5
While there are many themes available for the launcher, they are essentially icon packs with backgrounds. Many launchers now allow third party icons to be installed which make them far more versatile than APUS Launcher. However the limited numbers of themes available for APUS launcher are of extremely high quality.
Once applied, a theme significantly changes the whole look of your launcher. This is something sorely missing from the standard OMEs launchers. Customization is the blood of Android and it should be kept that way. The only bad thing about this is that the themes are hosted separately on the Google Play Store and needs to be downloaded before application.
This defeats the purpose of having exclusive first party themes. Why not integrate them into the app and download in the background as we request them? This added step is a bit inconvenient.
One of the best things about the app is its automatic app organizer. The app detects similar apps and bundles them together in one convenient folder. You can even swipe between folders to access the next cluster. This is a surprisingly efficient and intelligent feature.
The Search Bar – 4.5 out of 5
This is not a standard Google search bar, sire! This is a versatile one. It helps you in quickly finding apps installed on your phone. Simply start typing and the app will automatically display the apps associated with what you have written.
This is the easiest way to open apps without even launching the app drawer in the first place. I use this feature on other launchers as well but APUS has taken it one step further and made it very accessible.
That’s not all the bar does though; it also displays interesting things happening near you. It will randomly show trending searches and intriguing phrases right on the bar itself. Once tapped, it will show you Google results from the query. It is a nice way to stay informed and entertained at the same time.
The Notification System – 4 out of 5
The notification system on the APUS launcher is a good one. It gives you a simple notification bubble right on the screen allows you to access them instantly. This feature is extremely important for those who simply hate the dropdown notification tongue of the stock Android.
But you will need to install an additional plugging for the notifications to work. You can get it from here:
For those who like the dropdown notification system, there is a great APUS bar situated there too. It not only helps you in many fundamental functions but houses one of the best features of the launcher; the one tap RAM cleaner. This one-click app killer is a great way to ensure longer battery life and smooth operation of your Android device.
What It Grabs – 3 out of 5
I understand that a launcher needs to access certain features of your smartphone to ensure that it is working. The concerns regarding the personally privacy are a bit high these days and most apps are demanding everything.
A fast Android launcher needs to launch apps and be fast, not gain access to my contacts and even messages. This is the thing which makes us weary of third party apps, and APUS launcher is no different. While the developers insist that the data they access is only for our convenience, accessing my accounts and email contacts is not helping me launch any apps.
What APUS Users Are Saying
“It’s amazing my phone used to be really slow but now its faster thanks to the apus boost”
Many of the good reviews are about how fast the launcher is. Most of them talk about how this launcher is performing on their device and how much they find it useful. Some even mention the great themes and customization margin.
“I can’t uninstall the app”
For some reason many of the lowest ratings have to do something about it being permanent. I personally have not faced this issue, and checked by uninstalling the app on all of my devices. Some genuine bad reviews talk about the ads and how they can negatively impact the experience.
APUS is the fastest Android launcher around and it clearly shows right from the moment it first boots. If you feel the need…the need for speed, then get this launcher.
But if you feel annoyed with ads this app will be a nuisance for you. As this article aims to highlight the fastest launcher for Android around, APUS wins hands down with its great interface, innovative search bar and super intelligent app organizer.
