The Nexus 7 is quite possibly one of the top selling 7 inch Android tablets we’ve seen yet. Of course without official sales statistics, the original Kindle Fire still takes that spot and paved the way for what was to become the Nexus 7. Never before has a tablet with so much power been offered for such a low price. Maybe, Google is looking to shake up the smartphone industry even more.
It could very much be a far cry and is after all just a rumor, but DigiTimes reported that Google is working with several manufacturers on smartphones based on the Nexus 7 platform. Essentially, Google is letting the manufacturers run wild with their very own phone, long as it is based on the latest version of Android, 4.1 Jelly Bean. The company has really been pushing forward with trying to put fragmentation to an end, however, there’s still a lot of it going on.
Are multiple Nexus devices a good thing though? There’s already a ton of Android smartphones out there and many have said that it will just water down the ecosystem and cause more confusion among consumers. Until that day comes, we’ll just have to speculate.
