Find your friends and family with the Find My Friends iPhone App demonstrated by Apple along with the final version of iOS 5 and the iPhone 4S. As the name suggests, this app helps you to not just find your friends but also your family. All you have to do is send invitations to other iPhone users through your Apple ID and then share each other’s location. With the help of this app, you can select a particular friend or family member you want to look for and then view their location on the map.How the app works?
It connects to iCloud which then tracks down the GPS location of the iPhone owner you’re trying to find. The location is then sent back to your device and in this way you can track your friends every move.
How it works with Siri?
Once you’ve connected to your contacts and have been permitted by them to view their location, you need to launch Siri, ask her to find your friend by name, and after a few seconds she’ll return with a map showing you their location.
If you want the continuity of this you’ll need to turn on a passcode for your access to your iPhone. This allows you to keep Find My Friends connected to iCloud without having to re-enter a password.
Remember that if you try using Siri without having recently entered your Apple ID password into the Find My Friends app, Siri will point out that you need to enter your password for her to be able to find your friends.
Does it work while in the wilds?
Well, it has been reported to work but with problems at times in pointing out the exact location and instead giving about 1 mile radius.
Can you use it to track your children?
Well, you definitely can as it has been reported to be used mostly by parents to find their kids. Parents often want to be sure of their kids’ whereabouts and this app is of great help to them.
For safety measures, iOS 5 includes restriction features on the phone that allow you to lock down features of the Find My Friends app. So the kids can neither turn it off nor share their location with people parents don’t know.
