While many Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge owners were excited about the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, their excitement turned into disappointment when the latest update brought more problems than solutions. Shortly after Android M was rolled out for the device, we already started receiving reports from our readers and the most common of them all are power and charging issues.
In this post, I will answer some of the questions sent by our readers. If you’re one of the S6 Edge owners that contacted us about a problem, continue reading to see if your concern is among the ones I tackled here.

Q: “After receiving a notification, the phone automatically froze and vibrated for too long. It has not stop and it’s already been over 2 hours. I took it out the phone case and left it on the ground vibrating. I tried turning it off the screen is locked on the last page I was on and it cannot turn off. What to do?”
A: Let me guess, the phone won’t respond when you press the Power key, right? It actually sounds like it’s a simple system crash issue. You know, when the operating system crashes, the device will become unresponsive. For this, just press and hold both the Volume Down and Power keys together for 10 to 15 seconds. If there’s enough battery left, the phone will reboot normally but if the battery was all drained out, the screen may at least flicker. After doing such simple procedure, you may proceed charging the device or just use it like before.
Q: “When I have my brightness on full even though I have my charger plugged in my battery goes down?”
A: Well, it means that the phone is draining its battery quicker than it can take in and the screen is just one of the things that drain the battery. There might be a lot of apps running in the background as well. You may try booting your phone in safe mode first and see if it charges in that state even with the screen brightness set to full. Here’s how you boot in safe mode:
Turn off your Galaxy S6 Edge.
Press and hold the Power key.
When ‘Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge’ appears, immediately release the Power key and then press and hold the Volume Down button.
Continue holding the Volume Down button until the phone finishes the restart.
When you see Safe Mode on the lower left corner of the screen, release the button.
If the phone still drains the battery quicker in safe mode, you need to try to do the master reset but before that, make sure you back up all your important data as they’ll all be deleted. Here’s how you reset your phone:
Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Q: “The phone wont charge and when i turn it on it keeps popping up plug in charger, and vibrating until it shuts its self off.”
A: It sounds like the Power key is stuck or damaged. Try pressing it for many times to see if you can fix the issue with it, if not, then it must have been damaged. You need a technician to do further troubleshooting or checkup.
Q: “My Samsung S6 Edge was overheating for no apparent reason, it wouldn’t charge or open any apps, so I tried to wipe the caches and during that time the battery run out, it still won’t charge but has a warning sign and the android logo under and the screen is turquoise, there’s nothing I can do right now.”
A: Your phone is in recovery mode. Try to press the Power key or the Volume Up once and you’ll have more options. Using the Volume Down key, highlight Reboot System Now and press the Power key to confirm it. The phone should reboot. If, however, it gets started on the same screen, try choosing the ‘wipe cache partition’ option and hit Power key again. This usually takes care of this problem.
Q: “Stays in ATT reboot mode. When you do the power key, volume key, and power key reset. It gives you a warning custom OS warning application. It gives you an option to continue or cancel. I was just looking at Facebook when the phone went dead originally. Thanks for any help! ATT has told me that I could file a warranty claim. I just hate to wait for 10 days and get a new phone if you can help me. Thank you!”
A: It’s because the combination of the keys you pressed is not correct. First, press and hold the Volume Up (not just any Volume key) key, then press and hold the Home key, and then press and hold the Power key. This combination will bring you to the recovery mode. While the phone is in that state, try wiping the cache partition and this problem will be fixed. Try following these steps:
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
Press the Power key to select.
When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.
I hope this helps because if not, you have no other choice but to wait 10 days for the new replacement phone.
Q: “I’m not sure what android version it is. The charger has all of a sudden stopped working. I’ve tried with a different one and tried plugging into a laptop but there’s nothing at all.”
A: Try to check if the phone’s USB or utility port is somehow blocked with a debris, lint or dirt. If so, clean it up and see if that makes a difference, otherwise, it’s time you sent it to a tech for checkup and repair.
Q: “The phone vibrates about every 45 seconds. I have turned off her email notifications. No game Apps and social media is not the problem. The battery is lasting half a day at best. I do not know what else to do.”
A: I think it’s the notification reminder that’s doing this. Just head to Settings > Accessibility and turn off Notification reminder to fix this problem.
Q: “Phone over heats. Battery doesn’t last 24 hours with minimal usage.”
A: We may have provided you with detailed troubleshooting guide if you provided us with more information about his problem like how and when it started. But since we’re lacking information here, the safest thing you can do is reset your phone.
Q: “When I plug my phone in to the charger the flash on the back of the phone constantly flashes. No charge happens. I’ve tried the resets and nothing works.”
A: By “constantly flashes” you mean that the phone disconnects and reconnects to the charger, right? It might just be a loose connection to make sure the other end of the cable snaps right into the power adapter and the other to the phone’s utility port. If problem persists, see a technician about it.
Q: “A pint got spilt over a table while my phone was on it and now it in unresponsive.”
A: Apparently, the liquid found its way into the phone and while general cleaning might fix it, the warranty will become void the moment you open the phone up. So, I suggest you send the phone in and let the technician fix it for you.
Q: “Hi there, I saw this email on a webpage after having a very strange issue with my phone. Earlier today, and completely out of the blue, my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge phone switched off, and since, I have been unable to switch it back on. It is not charging whatsoever, and has no defects such as water damage or anything similar. Also it is only a few months old, so I find this very strange. Is there anything that you can do to help me with this issue I am having.”
A: Sounds like a simple system crash. Just press and hold both the Volume Down and Power keys together for 10 to 15 seconds and your device would reboot.
Q: “Now my phone did not work it totally shut down no charging and when it is started it always automatically restarted.”
A: Based on your very short description, it seems like the Power key is stuck. Press it many times to see if you can fix it that way because if not, you need help from a technician.
Q: “Hi there, I think my phone has got water damage I am at holiday on the beach and there were no signs of water damage however when I took the case of there was a few drops of water at the back. The phone worked fine however when I went to go through my photos it’s went black I then took it out the case and then noticed the few drops of water. I then turned the phone off and left it to dry and now the phone turns on it rings etc. noise keeps coming through of texts etc., however, the screen is still black. Would really appreciate your help in this matter. Thanks, Danny.”
A: Try doing the Forced Reboot procedure first and see if that makes a difference; press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 10 seconds. If the phone reboots and the screen lights up, then problem solved, otherwise, seek help from a technician as it’s probably water damage.
