For the last couple of days, we’ve been receiving requests for assistance from #Samsung #GalaxyS6Edge users as some couldn’t update their devices while others complained about their phones becoming so slow after the Android 6.0 #Marshmallow was installed. But majority were complaining while they still haven’t received the notification yet.
In this post, I addressed the second issue–S6 Edge slowed down after an update. But for those who are still waiting for the update, please wait a little bit more as updates are rolled out in batches in every region. It will surely come…unless you’re under the umbrella of service providers that don’t support firmware upgrades.
For other issues with your phone, visit our S6 Edge troubleshooting page, find issues that are similar to yours and use the existing solutions. Or you can just contact us immediately by filling up this questionnaire. It’s a free service so don’t worry about anything but please provide sufficient information about your problem so we can help you better.
Here’s the list of the problems I addressed in this article…
S6 Edge became so slow after the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update
Problem: I just got the Marshmallow update and I successfully installed it. However, after the update, my phone a Galaxy S6 Edge became really, really slow that it takes more than 5 seconds to just open the messaging app or the phone app. I rebooted countless times already thinking the app might have just been initializing just like what my S5 did last year but it didn’t do it; it’s still slow. What should I do to fix this problem, please? Thanks a lot!
Troubleshooting: Congratulations to have successfully updated your phone; many users were complaining after update failure for a couple of days now.
About your problem though, I think you really need to do so general troubleshooting procedures to try to make your phone faster again and the first thing you need to do is delete all the system caches. Follow these steps and don’t worry, none of your data will be deleted:
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
Press the Power key to select.
When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.
After the reboot you should notice an improvement with the overall performance of your phone but if it’s not enough, then I suggest you do the master reset but before doing that, follow these steps first:
Backup all your data including your contacts, pictures, videos, music, apps, etc. These files will be deleted during the reset so you better move them over to a memory stick or to your computer.
Remove your Google account from your phone.
Disable all screen locks.
Now that you’re ready, follow these steps:
Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
I always prepare doing the master reset than factory reset every after an update as it doesn’t only delete the data but reformats the data partition where the data created by the previous firmware are stored. I hope this helps.
Menu options page doesn’t stay open while using certain apps
Problem: When running PG Sudoku and Solitaires, I am unable to keep the Menu options open. When I tapped the button, the options opened briefly and then closes. I can move the button about (three dots in a circle) but could not access the options as I could not keep them opened. On my S3, I just tapped the Recent button, left of the home button ton but on the S6 Edge, all it does is open the pages.
Answer: If the problem only occurs while using these two apps, then it’s an app issue. The developers may need to improve some aspects of the apps. The best thing you can do is report the problem in detail.
S6 Edge doesn’t show the entire email threads
Problem: When I reply to an email then go to my sent mail, I only see my reply, not the whole email string (only the title of previous email, not the body of previous email). This happens to most people in my friends and colleagues that uses Samsung phone. Do you have the same issue? It is quite frustrating for me.
Answer: There’s no setting that will let the phone automatically trim the email messages and not show the entire thread so everything is set the way it should be. You may not be able to see the entire thread but have you verified it with your recipients if they too are missing it? How about if they replied to your message, does the entire thread shows?
S6 Edge shows the updating window and telling apps are starting
Problem: After apps transfer, it was asking for android upgrade. Did the upgrade and appeared a window where is wrote: “Android is upgrading… starting apps.”
It has already two hours sins running this. I cannot close and I don’t have access to battery to pulled out.
Answer: If this occurred after an attempted official firmware update, then there’s not much you (as a user) can do about it. You need help from your phone provider or Samsung. Basically, what the techs would do about it is re-install the previous firmware version prior to the update and then try downloading the same update again.
However, if this occurred after installing a custom ROM or modding something in the firmware, it’s a sign everything didn’t go smoothly. The fix is to manually flash the stock firmware.
People disappeared from the Edge screen
Problem: I have set up people from my contacts on the People Edge over and over, but they keep disappearing. Sometimes one will stay and the other will go (so far, I only put two people on the Edge) – no consistency as to which stays and which disappears — today they both disappeared. The gray edge tab is still there, but when I pull it out, it shows that all my People slots are blank. It’s not so hard to keep adding them back in, but it’s tedious and I don’t see why I should have to keeping doing this. Any thoughts? (My contacts are synched from my Microsoft Exchange contacts, but I can’t see any reason that would be a problem. Thanks.
Answer: There is an upcoming update that you shall receive soon. It brings enhancement to the People Edge as well as fixes to commonly encountered problem including the one you’re complaining about. Just wait a little bit more.
Meanwhile, try clearing the cache and the data of the People Edge service.
From any Home screen, tap Apps.
Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
Swipe right to the ALL screen.
Scroll to and tap the PeopleStrip.
Tap Clear cache.
Tap Clear data, then OK.
