Flipboard has acquired the team behind Ultravisual, an iPhone app that gives creative types fresh inspiration in a beautiful visual feed.
Flipboard didn’t say what Ultravisual’s employees would be working on, but credited their approach to “information design, pixel-perfect engineering and visually stunning interfaces.” The Ultravisual app will be offered for another six months, but under the stewardship of the company’s backer Technicolor. The original team will be around to support its users during the “transition,” but then they’ll be free to work on new or existing projects at Flipboard.
“By joining Flipboard we’ll be working to foster new ways for you to curate, create and share your unique perspective with the world through this amazing platform,” the Ultravisual team said on Tumblr.
Much of Flipboard’s success has been built around offering online content in attractive, magazine-inspired layouts. Hiring proven designers, especially in the mobile space, will only strengthen its reputation.
