The long awaited Galaxy S3 will be unveiled by Samsung this evening at the Mobile Unpacked 2012 event held in London, UK. The event can be attended by invitation only but if you still haven’t received your invite there are other ways you can keep up to date with the launch. The launch event will begin at 7PM UK time.
The phone will be unveiled simultaneously in New York, Dubai and Seoul, and will be followed closely by many major tech websites. Samsung has also provided a Mobile Unpacked app which will feature live streaming of the launch event direct to your phone. The app can be obtained from Google Play so if the S3 is of particular interest to you, you might want to download the app in preparation for tonight’s event.
The app is available for Android phones with Froyo or above and has already been downloaded 100,000 times. Downloads are expected to snowball throughout the day.
The Galaxy S3 is the successor to the award winning Galaxy S2, which has been one of the biggest selling phones of the last year and the biggest threat to the iPhone’s supremacy. Current rumours suggest that it will have a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED Plus screen with HD resolution, quad core 1.5GHz Exynos processor and the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich.
As well as this, Samsung will be introducing advanced voice recognition software to rival Siri and will also reveal its new cloud storage service, sCloud. Other features that have been speculated include a 12 megapixel camera and advanced water proof coating.
There will be a number of different colour options available at launch, including black, blue and white. As the successor to the S2 it is expected to launch with a similar price tag, although no price has yet been confirmed. This will place the handset at about £500 – £550 SIM-free, or £30 per month on a free contract. Once the phone is released within the next fortnight you will be able to compare contracts at Best Mobile Contracts if you live in the UK.
