Android users who are looking for a great Advent calendar app this holiday season are sure to enjoy Follow The Star. This new app from triomis GmbH features plenty of goodies for kids to unlock throughout the month of December.

Concept and Functionality
I have to admit I thought Follow The Star was a bit disorganized at first, seeing as days are in random order on the main screen of the app. However, I found that swiping around and trying to find the next day to open was somewhat fun, and a very intentional part of the app.
You can even use the refresh button at the bottom of the screen to scramble days again.
The basic idea behind Follow The Star is to provide kids with something new to look forward to everyday during the month of December. This includes a new chapter about the story of Jesus, fun and simple holiday recipes, and even craft projects.
Adding to the fun is that everything is random, so kids won’t know what the day’s treat will be.
As far as content goes, I was pleased to see the variety included in Follow The Star. The story chapters are fairly easy to read for older children, and recipes are easy to follow.
The app even allows kids to easily navigate to unlocked chapters and recipes. However, I experienced quite a bit of trouble with the organized menu on my Nexus 7 and swiping between categories didn’t work as smooth as I’d like.
Follow The Star Android App
Follow The Star Includes a few features such as date blocking, meaning kids can’t skip ahead and unlock items before the day has arrived. This is definitely a great way to make sure the fun isn’t spoiled all at once!
Also, the story chapters included in Follow The Star have narration support, but I was disappointed to find that the app uses the built-in Google voice for narration, which reads incredibly fast and can be tough to understand.
I definitely feel that actual human narration would be far more valuable in an app like this, especially seeing as it’s geared towards younger kids.
Follow The Star is available to download from Google Play for $4.43, which I feel is pretty high given the fact that the app is very barebones and simple. There are plenty of other Android Advent apps that offer more for less, including cute animations, quality narration, and even games.
Overall, Follow The Star is off to a good start, but the price is a bit steep for me to highly recommend it.
We’d like to see additional features added to the app in future updates, or the price is lowered significantly to reflect what Follow The Star offers.
Follow The Star is $4.43 and requires Android 2.3.3+. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
