When monsters come to your bakery, they want baked goods just like any other customers. Foodo Kitchen is a new kids app that lets younger audiences bake cakes, donuts, cupcakes, and more. The monsters come in with very specific orders to fill, and it’s up to kids to see if they can bake a treat the monsters will devour, or just spit out. The complete baking process is included, but rendered into a highly accessible form made for all ages, and touch controls.
The process begins by pouring out flour and milk, cracking eggs, and then rolling them all together. There are five different baking molds, and then it’s off to the oven to match colors to set the right baking time. Every order comes with a specific food coloring, and there are also 14 types of sprinkles, and 34 decorations to accent your baked goods with. The entire process can be completed without any text guides, because it’s so intuitive. There are event animated creatures that show the touch gestures that are required for each step.
There’s a great style to all of the included artwork to highlight the potential creativity of the baking combinations. The monsters are also on the cute side, so that you want to bake for them. It’s neat to see each treat come together from start to finish to then send on to the monster for its satisfaction. The main problem is that it’s the same baking process each time, so it would be nice to change the number of eggs, or provide requirements for specific decorations. New orders come in, but they’re all baked the same with just a few color changes along the way. It’s still an engaging experience for kids with the creative potential, and ease of use.
Foodo Kitchen ($1.99, iPad) is a great kids app that creates a compelling sequence of touch interactions with a rewarding result.
