Last week, it was said that Forza Motorsports 5 for the Xbox One would require a day-one download that gamers would be required to obtain before they’d be able to play the game. This was confirmed by Turn 10 Studios’ Dan Greenawalt. However, he’s back with a new policy, saying that gamers will eventually need to download the extra content, and they’ll be able to play the game even before downloading said content.
This is certainly good news for those who were planning to buy Forza 5 on release day, as you won’t need to connect to Xbox Live right away before you can start enjoying the game. Gamers will be able to begin playing the game, but in order to get the full experience, you’ll be required to download the additional content.
The download consists of extra cars and tracks, as well as additional Drivatar data that “contains enough Drivatars to cover all difficulty settings.” However, Greenawalt notes that “the vast majority of the launch content is contained on the disc,” meaning that gamers will get to enjoy most of the game without downloading the extra content at first.
Greenawalt continues, saying that “the gameplay is not blocked while downloading the additional content; it’s done in the background just like disc install.” While Drivatar is a huge feature in Forza 5, the disc itself contains some Drivatar data to get you going. For example, “in the beginning of the game, the player will be racing against Drivatars that are contained on the disc and were trained by the [Turn 10 development] team.”
However, gamers will eventually have to connect to the internet to download the additional content, since “deeper areas in the career mode were designed to utilize these additional cars and tracks.” Greenawalt says this is similar to previous version of Forza, in the sense that the games came with additional content that was to be downloaded, on top of the initial disc.
