Every athlete in the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will get a free Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet. This is due to a partnership between Samsung and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that was announced today in Moscow, Russia.

According to Samsung, this team-up will allow the Games to be the most attuned to today’s trends in high-speed wireless technology. Furthermore, it will allow for better connectivity among the athletes, the fans, and the Olympics staff, which will be made possible via the custom Wireless Olympic Works (WOW) mobile application.
The partnership effectively makes the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 the official phone for the Games. Already, Samsung has been a partner of the Olympic Games for fifteen years, but this is the first time that it decided to provide all athletes with a Samsung device.
The team-up began in 1988, when Samsung was named a local sponsor of the the Seoul Olympic Games. It also became a partner during the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games. It is expected that Samsung will be a Worldwide Olympic Partner until 2016, during the Olympic Games in Rio.
Samsung underscored that the Winter Olympic Games this year will be very exciting, as it will gather several notable athletes that sports fans should not miss. Among these are Armin Zoeggeler of Italy, who may be the first Winter Olympics athlete to win six medals in one event; Gregor Schlierenzauer of Austria, who is a defending champion in ski jumping from the 2010 Olympic Games; and Evan Strong of the United States, the number 1 paralympic snowboarder in the world. These athletes, among with more than 70 others coming from 20 nations, are part of what Samsung calls the GALAXY Team of inspirational Olympic hopefuls.
Samsung also enlisted the help of hockey player and GALAXY Team Russia member Evgeny Malkin as well as tennis star and Sochi 2014 Samsung brand ambassador Maria Sharapova to promote the Games.
Samsung is currently going around several Russian Cities to showcase its devices and services in areas which they have identified as Sport Interactive Zones to get fans excited for the Olympic Games next year.
