This week on the Gadget Lab podcast, the gang talks about privacy issues with the social sharing app Path and addresses the rampant iPad 3 speculation as of late. Best of all, there’s a product giveaway this week, so check out the video to see how you can win!
First up, reviews editor Michael Calore and Gadget Lab staff writer Mike Isaac open up the show chatting about Path’s privacy breach. Path is an iOS and Android app that combines photo sharing, status updating and check-ins with a slick updated UI. It’s been a big hit, until it was recently discovered that the app has been pulling your address book data and uploading it to its own servers. The Mikes talk about the implications of this and other similar past app privacy issues. If there’s any good that can come of it, hopefully it will push future apps to provide more transparency as to what’s happening on the back end, or at least the choice to opt in.
The Mikes then show off a surprisingly cool, sexy, and expensive iPhone case made of machined aluminum. I won’t give you any more details, but you should check out the video footage if you want a chance to win your own!
To wrap up this week’s show, staff Writer Christina Bonnington joins Michael to talk about the rampant, ubiquitous Apple iPad 3 rumors that have been circulating of late. Leaked images purported to belong to the iPad 3 are starting to crop up online, including one of the back casing. This picture showed that the next iPad could have a different camera, larger battery, a differently shaped logic board, and a new LCD display. Apple will reportedly hold its launch event in San Francisco the first week of March. We’ll have to see if any of these rumors actually play out.
