On this week’s episode of the Gadget Lab show, we check out Samsung’s latest budget tablet, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, as well as a cool mapping tool that shows you where to find food and ammunition in the event of a zombie infestation. The show ends with a show-and-tell of two iPad cases — which we’re giving away to two lucky viewers.
Reviews editor Michael Calore and the newest member of the Gadget Lab team, staff writer Nathan Olivarez-Giles, take a look at the latest Android tablet on the block, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. It’s an Ice Cream Sandwich-enabled follow-up to last year’s Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, and costs only $250.
Next up, staff writer Roberto Baldwin joins Michael to discuss how zombie preparedness is now much easier thanks to a new mapping service. Tapping directly into Google maps, the Map of the Dead from Doejo reveals the locations of gun shops, liquor stores, and cemeteries (among other spots) so you know which areas to scrounge for supplies, and which areas should be avoided.
To finish off this week’s show, Michael and staff writer Christina Bonnington take a look at a pair of Pad and Quill brand iPad cases. One model folds into a stand, and the other has a folder for stashing papers. Although they’re designed for the third-generation iPad, both cases will also fit an iPad 2. If you want a chance to win one, you’ll have to watch the show to find out what the challenge is, and either tweet at @Gadgetlab or comment on this post with the answer.
