Problem #1: Galaxy Note 4 won’t power on
It is Lollipop or Marshmallow but I don’t know which.
The phone was working fine. I was online chatting with a friend while my Note 4 was charging then I locked the screen and started to watch an episode of a show on my television. I check my phone about 10 minutes later and there’s no life in it. I tried to power it on by holding onto the power button. Next I attempted to take out the battery for a minute and then put back in and try to turn it on. After that I looked at a few possible solutions offered here. I’ve tried taking out the battery holding on to the power button for 90 seconds then putting the battery back in and trying to turn on the phone by holding on to the power button, and also then doing the first part over again but this time putting the phone on charge for 20 minutes with the battery in before attempting to turn it on. I don’t know what to do the light that’s usually there to let you know that it’s charging isn’t even there. Thanks for helping or trying to help even if I have to bring it into a shop. ^_^ — Bhupinder
Solution: Hi Bhupinder. If your phone won’t respond to any hardware button combinations at this time, that’s a clear indication that either the battery has died, or a component or set of components are no longer working. Either way, the best thing to do is to have the phone physically checked so it can be repaired.
Problem #2: Fixing Galaxy Note 4 bootloop issue
My phone died. I turned it back on to see If i could check a message with a little bit of juice and it turned for a minute and then turned off. Ever since then it will not turn on. When I press the power button it vibrates and says Samsung Galaxy Note 4 for 2 seconds and then it turns off for 4 seconds and it continues to do this cycle and does not stop unless I take the battery out.
When I first connect the charger it shows a charging icon and then immediately goes back into that mode where is says Samsung Galaxy Note 4 for 2 seconds and then turns off over and over again. We got a new battery and that’s not the problem.
I tried the soft reset, the hard reset, the factory reset, the reboot, the recovery mode, it won’t let me get into anything.
I took it into the store they could not do anything. Please give me a solution or suggestion. Thank you. — Sarah
Solution: Hi Sarah. The issue you’re experiencing right now is what we call a bootloop issue. Most of the time, this issue is caused by faulty software although there are some rare cases wherein hardware is to blame. To fix it, we usually recommend that you boot the phone in recovery mode and do a factory reset. Since you’ve already tried without a positive result, the next best thing to do is to flash a custom or stock firmware. This procedure can be done by booting the phone in download mode first. If you haven’t tried flashing an Android device before, make sure that you use Google to search for online instructions.
Now, if flashing a ROM won’t the issue, that means that there may be a hardware problem behind this trouble. Make sure to contact Samsung or your wireless carrier for a warranty repair or replacement.
Problem #3: Galaxy Note random restart/ won’t power on
Put an SD card into phone to get my photos on to the phone. Since this time my phone turns off all the time. SD card has been removed (and the photos).
When the phone turns off i can’t turn it back on for a number of hours. It currently takes longer and longer.
When i try to turn it on it goes to the Samsung name page, freezes, turns off, restarts (on its own). Phone becomes very hot when this occurs. Only way to stop it is to take battery out.
Does the same thing even when attempting to turn on in safe mode.
If phone does turn on, will turn off randomly – no pattern found in which apps are open when this occurs.
Soft reset did not work.
Can not yet turn phone back on to try clear cache or other suggestions made. — Janneke
Solution: Hi Janneke. Sounds like your issue is similar to the ones above. Please refer to the suggestions for each case to see which one will work for you.
Problem #4: Galaxy Note 4 sometimes loses app icons and won’t load them
Applications that I downloaded TO the SD card ON this device used to be able to open and work properly. Now, they can’t be opened. In fact, they don’t fully register at all. I say “don’t fully” because when I click on the “ghost icon”, it says ‘application not installed’ and then automatically opens the games’ page in Google Play, and the page offers the choice for me to install it. However, apps that aren’t installed on the phone don’t leave icons behind, the icons are removed too. But these leave behind this weird icon of a transparent android picture with a mini icon of an SD card in the lower right corner.
Not only all that, but once in a blue moon, the Apps WORK and ARE registered AND installed!!
Also, all of these details were of true value BEFORE AND AFTER upgrading to Lollipop.

Solution: Hi Max. This is a phenomenon that we’ve observed on other Samsung devices that run Android OS other than Lollipop so we know this is not an isolated case. There seems to be no definitive answer as to what causes this situation but we know that a simple restart usually fixes it. If you’ll encounter the problem again, don’t forget to restart the phone to see if it will work as a workaround. If not, try wiping the cache partition.
Following an update, there’s a chance that the cache partition will become disorganized, cluttered, or contain outdated and irrelevant files. While updates like Lollipop are supposed to automatically create a new cache, this does not always happen in reality. One of the main reasons why so many users are complaining about slow performance, lag, freezing, or any other totally unrelated issues after updating to Lollipop (or any other OS) is a corrupted cache partition. We think that this is also the reason for your case. If you haven’t tried clearing the cache before, here are the steps to do it:
Turn off the Galaxy Note 4 completely.
Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home keys together, then press and hold the Power key.
When the Note 4 vibrates, release both the Home and Power keys but continue holding the Volume Up key.
When the Android System Recovery shows on the screen, release the Volume Up key.
Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option ‘wipe cache partition’ and press the Power key to select it.
When the wiping of the cache partition is finished, highlight Reboot system now and hit the power key.
Problem #5: Galaxy Note 4 losing battery power and randomly reboot
Hello. I’ve had a look through your forums and couldn’t find a solution to my problem. I’ve had this problem for a while now. The battery on my device drains really fast, and occasionally will turn off without notice. It will then restart but once booted, will restart again on a continuous loop until I remove the battery and then restart whilst plugged in to a charger.
I have multiple batteries with separate battery chargers as I thought this would be the best solution. I have also recently reset my device to factory settings but has continued with the same problems after only installing a few small apps. No games.
Amy help would be much appreciated as I use my phone for work.

Solution: Hi David. If you want to get to the bottom of this problem, doing a factory reset is not enough. Because the problem appears to be not related to the battery (as you have been using at least more than one), it can only be caused by a bad hardware, apps, or firmware. You need to narrow the causes down further. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to do this.
To see if an app is responsible, we recommend that you do another round of factory reset and observe the phone for at least 24 hours without installing any app. If battery consumption will appear normal and/or if the phone won’t restart on its own, that’s your clue to start getting rid of whatever apps you are planning to install.
Alternatively, you can observe the phone for at least a full day after booting in safe mode. While safe mode is enabled, third party apps will be prevented from running so will still tell you if you’ve installed a problematic app.
If there’s no change after doing any of the procedures above, we suggest that you call Samsung for a repair or replacement.
Problem #6: Galaxy Note 4 unable to text and call when using mobile data/weaker LTE signal after update
Hello. I have some experience working with Samsung ROMs and firmware, but i have run into an issue i can quite put my finger on. The problem starts when i update to any baseband above BOE2. I have clean flashed the newest update and the same results occurred. The issue is whenever i try and use mobile data i lose my entire connection (texting, calling, etc). I have troubleshot the issue with my provider and they claim nothing has changed. I contacted Samsung Support and only received an offer to send my phone in to be looked at.
Now i know this issue is not just me since i have found numerous posts on XDA and the like about signal issues after a specific update.
Doing some digging i found that the tower my phone connects to without the issue is different and closer than the tower i connect to after the update. When i do have signal its only about 3 bars LTE where i used to get 5 bars LTE. So it would seem the issue resides within the modems firmware. To fix the issue i am currently clean flashed back to BOE2 and have nonissues what so ever.
Now with that aside, my question i have for you is…Have you come across a solution for this issue? And if not would a 5.1.1 custom ROM work with the BOE2 modem?

Solution: Hi Chris. To answer your question, the answer is no. We haven’t encountered this issue yet until now and we’re not aware of it being discussed in other forums. That’s probably because the issue appears to be carrier-specific, which means that users like you would rather post the question in their carrier’s technical support site rather than ask us.
Anyway, we still consider this problem to be best addressed by your carrier. First of all, the firmware version on your phone comes from them. There’s a chance that it may be poorly coded, or it may have encountered a conflict with a particular app on your phone. The developer team that built the firmware should check that. There’s no way for us to know which is which.
Secondly, the weak LTE signal issue after the update may or may not be linked to the first one. It’s up to your carrier which “cell” in their network your device will be assigned to. The change may or may not be the result of firmware modification. The only thing that you can do right now is let them know about the issues so they can do something about it. We know how frustrating it can be to sometimes talk to customer support representatives (who may only be trained to handle account- or billing-related questions) so make sure that you demand to talk to their technical support team.
