Problem #1: Fast charging feature on Note 4 not working
First off, by no means I am an expert but have a solid knowledge base when it comes to Android smartphones.. However, I am at a loss on this one as I just cannot seem to resolve this issue.
Yesterday on 11/14, I noticed that my phone was no longer “fast charging”.. Went to bed with it plugged in using adaptive charger, woke up after about 4 hours with it still only at 60% charged.
I have spent a good part of today pulling out all the stops trying to troubleshoot the issue as I cannot seem to get past 37% while plugged in.
– checked battery settings to ensure fast charging box is checked
– reviewed what is using battery power.. nothing too crazy but Android System was at 40% with screen at 19%. Also noticed that it was awake for most of time that screen was not on.. is that a sign of malware?
– went through 6 or 7 cables with two adaptive plugs.. no luck..
– completed a full factory reset.. no luck.
– attempted to clear cache partition but may have not been successful as I am not experienced doing this.
– several soft resets (battery pulls). Checked connectors on battery and battery housing.
– checked battery for bulges.. nothing.
At first my concern was obviously the fast charging but now I am just doggy paddling to maintain level while charging regularly.
*New activities on phone include:
-AllCast Sharing Video to HDTV via Netflix, YouTube, Vevo, etc..
-Streaming Audio to Denon AVR500BT Receiver.
One of my main concerns is Malware…would the factory reset remove that if so?
Please let me know your thoughts as I would love to get to the bottom of this.

Solution: Hi Paul. Make sure that you follow some of the suggestions in our previous post about this issue first. If nothing makes any difference, make sure that plug the charging jack all the way in. Sometimes, loose connection can cause the phone to disengage fast charging feature.
Just in case the issue is due to a problem third party app, consider booting the phone in safe mode while charging. If the phone charges normally in safe mode, that’s a good indicator that there’s an app that prevents fast charging from working normally. To restart your Note 4 in safe mode, just follow these steps:
Turn off the phone completely.
Press and hold the Power key and the Volume Down key.
When the phone starts to boot, release the Power key but continue holding the Vol Down key until the phone finished restarting.
Safe mode will be display at the lower left corner; you may release the Volume Down key now.
If nothing changes even when on safe mode, the problem should reside on the phone itself. Either there’s a hardware problem, or a software issue that can’t be resolved by doing the basic troubleshooting on your end. If your Note 4 is still under warranty, make sure to ask for a replacement. Otherwise, you may be forced to pay for its repair.
Problem #2: Battery replacement fixed power issue on Galaxy Note 4
FYI. Phone will shut down with 80% charge. Battery replaced with an after market brand battery, same problem. Contact Samsung Technical support states:
YOU MUST USE:
Original OEM battery.
Purchased OEM on line for $12.95. Now I can go down to 2% charge with 85 apps open and no problems.
Note: after market batteries do work. BUT your phone will not work 100% properly as with an OEM Battery. All this info on line on scratching the surface of the battery contacts, shove a piece a paper behind the back end of the battery, etc., is all BS.
Use OEM .
Spend $700 for a Note 4. Purchase the proper battery.

Solution: Hi Tod. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We do recommend testing another battery for power issues although we also provide some remedies. After market batteries can have mixed results as they do not go through the same quality checks as Samsung ones. We have used some after market batteries ourselves in our lab and they do work. You’re right though– they don’t last as long as the original Samsung ones.
Problem #3: Galaxy Note 4 reboots after 30 seconds
Hello! I am having issues with my Samsung Note 4. Over the past week it has not been charging properly. Sometimes it would charge fine and sometimes it wouldn’t charge all the way.
Then yesterday, the phone shut off (battery was at 2%). I let it charge prior to turning it back on (battery charged to 100%). When I turned it on, it shut off after about 30 seconds. Since then it will not turn on at all. I have tried different chargers, I have tried a soft reset, and I am at a loss.
I am devastated because I have only had this phone for 2 months and I have not backed it up (I am pregnant and all my ultrasound pics are on the phone :'( ) . .
Anyways, now when I go to charge it the battery with the lightning bolt inside, just keeps blinking. If I mess with it enough I can get the phone to power on to the home screen, but then it immediately shuts off. Please help! Thank you!! — Ali
Solution: Hi Ali. The first thing to do in this case is to ensure that there’s no battery issue. Just like what Tod suggested above, try using another battery (original Samsung battery is preferable) first to see the difference. If the issue remains after using a known working battery, start doing the basic software troubleshooting.
Start by doing booting the phone in safe mode (steps provided above). Safe mode prevents third party apps from running. If the phone charges normally while on safe mode, that’s your cue — that you need to uninstall some of your apps until you have eliminated the cause.
You can also wipe the phone cache to ensure that its clean. To do that, just follow these steps:
Turn off the Galaxy Note 4 completely.
Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home keys together, then press and hold the Power key.
When the Note 4 vibrates, release both the Home and Power keys but continue holding the Volume Up key.
When the Android System Recovery shows on the screen, release the Volume Up key.
Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option ‘wipe cache partition’ and press the Power key to select it.
When the wiping of the cache partition is finished, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the power key.
Doing the factory reset usually follows wiping of the cache partition. If you can’t complete the process before the phone restarts again, that’s a clear indicator that there might be a hardware malfunction. Have the phone checked by a qualified technician. Make sure to ask them if they can do something about the pictures you don’t want to lose.
Problem #4: Galaxy Note 4 unresponsive, won’t power on
Hello I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Edge that I bought off eBay. It had a cracked screen but worked with no issues. I bought a new Note 4 Edge housing and transferred the motherboard over to make a good phone. Everything was working fine.
One morning I hit the home button and swiped the lock screen to open the phone and got to home screen. Then I hit the apps button to bring up my apps and scrolled though my apps but the phone froze and became unresponsive.
I hit the home button and nothing happened then the power button and nothing. The screen was on but the phone wasn’t responding to any buttons. So I waited 5 minutes and pulled the battery, thinking that would unfreeze the phone. But now the phone is unresponsive and won’t turn on. I tried the reset. Hold the power and up volume button trick. Still nothing. I plugged it into power (both wall charger and computer) still nothing.
Last thing I’m gonna try is changing the battery. I can’t believe I killed the phone by pulling the battery but I guess anything is possible. — Andy
Solution: Hi Andy. We don’t think checking the battery should be the last thing you need to do. On the contrary, making sure that it’s working should be the first step. If a second battery won’t make any difference, the issue may be a failing hardware. If you need a guide for hardware troubleshooting and diagnostics, please look for other online resources. Our blog does not provide these stuff.
Problem #5: Galaxy Note 4 won’t power on if not connected to a charger
Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Began as battery not holding charge and then dying quickly. Eventually turned into not being able to turn on, whether plugged in or not.
At this point, I have ordered a new battery and replaced. Upon plugging in charger, phone is still off, it showed ~65% charged, but would not turn on.
I let it charge to ~85, unplugged, and then tried once more to turn on and no go. However, if I plug it in, it will turn on and operate while charging. The slightest movement of the female power adapter on the tablet causes it to turn off, or obviously if I unplug it turns off.
Upon plugging back in, it still shows the battery at ~85% or holding whatever the last number was. All of the ribbons are connected well, and I cannot see anywhere that they look crimped or broken. None of the pins seem to be broken on the motherboard where the ribbons plug in. A bit dumbfounded as t whether the replacement battery is just a dud, or if there is something wrong with the motherboard. Any thoughts? — Brent
Solution: Hi Brent. If your phone powers on at this time only when the charger is connected, there’s a good chance that the replacement battery may be defective.
If the battery’s good, try booting in safe mode and perform a factory reset to check if there’s a software issue behind. If there’s no difference even after doing a factory reset, a full hardware diagnostic is needed to check the motherboard. We recommend that you let Samsung handle the repair to ensure proper diagnostics.
