Galaxy S4 smartphone from Samsung was confirmed to receive the marshmallow update by the internal testers and the googles latest flavor of android will make its way into the device sometime next year. The excellent galaxy S4 that received praise from its reviewers might have been released in march 2013 but is still a capable device.
Google and other manufacturers have earlier said that they will stop updating the devices that are more than 18 months old. Samsung is clearly breaking the taboo here by updating the galaxy S4 that is 30 months old.
Google released the marshmallow update a couple of months back and the nexus devices were the first to receive it followed by the LG G4. Motorola followed suit and is updating its phones as fast as it can. Samsung is notoriously slow in updating its devices. This is because Samsung has a load of devices to update and even a single device has multiple variants like the galaxy S4 active making it a difficulty process to update. Carrier approval isn’t helping it either.
The first wave of updating process will hit the note 5 and galaxy s6 and its variants followed by the tab s2 and galaxy A8. The older generations phones such as the galaxy S5 and galaxy S4 are likely to get the update in the Q2 of 2016.
If you aren’t a person who like to wait for these updates, the modding community is here to help. There are some custom roms of the marshmallow that will help you in updating the phone to the latest android and you can get a pure android experience. Although this will void any warranty you have, it is highly unlikely that you would have any kind of warranty on a device that is more than 2 years old.
