New Samsung Galaxy Android 5.0 release details have emerged thanks to another European wing of the Korea-based company. The Danish arm of Samsung reveals new, and specific, Android 5.0 Lollipop release details for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 2, Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, and others.
Last month, Google started pushing out its new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system for the first time. The update started with its Nexus smartphones and tablets but the Android 5.0 Lollipop has slowly been delivered to Android devices from other companies including Samsung, the world’s largest Android manufacturer.
Initially, Samsung chose to stay quiet about Android 5.0 Lollipop and its release. However, over the past few weeks, we’ve started to see details trickle out of the company itself as it looks to keep pace with rivals like HTC and LG. Weeks ago, Samsung’s global headquarters confirmed several Lollipop updates for arrival including updates for the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy S5 LTE-A.
In the days since those announcements, we’ve seen some other details pop up including information from regional wings of the massive company. Earlier this month it was the Finnish arm and today, we’ve discovered some new Lollipop update details lurking about at Samsung Finland. These details offer several new bits of information and they also back the information displayed on the Finnish website.
Samsung Denmark also says that the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 will be getting Lollipop, something we already knew, but it also claims that these updates will follow the Galaxy S5. This is not surprising given their status as flagships but it’s the first time we’ve seen specific information about the release timeline emerge.
Furthermore, the company claims that while the Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy S5 Active, Galaxy S5 Mini, Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 2 will all be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop updates, those updates won’t be arriving until “later in 2015.” The company is not specific about the roll out though these are all mentioned after the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates so it’s safe to assume that they will come later.
It’s important to note that this is the second regional wing that’s confirmed a Galaxy Note 2 Android 5.0 Lollipop update so it appears that the information that we saw emerge earlier this month is dead on. The Galaxy Note 2 is now over two years old but it looks like it may have the hardware required to run Google’s brand new operating system.
All of these Lollipop release dates are subject to change. Samsung Denmark provides a massive disclaimer in the fine print underneath its Android 5.0 Lollipop schedule:
The information provided on this page is preliminary and will be updated as soon as new information is available. Samsung Denmark can not give more information than what is listed here. Samsung can not provide compensation if an update is released later or completely canceled, and we reserve the right to at any time remove / change / add information. All information applies to phones that are not operator locked; operator locked phones get updates later (usually within 2-4 weeks). When an update is published, it is our goal that as many as possible to get the updates as soon as possible, but to avoid overloading our servers, we can spread the updates, so it takes a little before anyone can download the update.
Look for more details to emerge as we push away from 2014 and head deeper into 2015.
