We just received the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, the brawny version of Samsung’s beautiful Galaxy S6, and we’re here with an unboxing and first look at the new smartphone. It packs a lot of similar features as its more attractive sibling, but in a much stronger package.
That strength — the extra plastic bulk packed around every inch of the smartphone — has good purpose. The Galaxy S6 Active is resistant to dust, water and drops with an IP68 rating. That means you can quickly wash it off in the sink if it accidentally takes a dunk in a puddle during a weekend hike.
Speaking of hiking, the S6 Active is made for folks who live that sort of lifestyle, and it comes with a preloaded “Activity Zone” application that puts things like the weather, a compass, the flashlight, a stopwatch and more all in one place — perfect for camping.
And sure, while it’s not as pretty as the Galaxy S6 is, it does still offer some of the same great hardware, like a 5.1-inch Quad HD display, a 16-megapixel camera 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It even has a larger 3,500mAh battery.
