Samsung recently unveiled a new smartphone that they hope will help get them back to being on top of the smartphone game. The new Samsung Galaxy S7 has a lot of features that should cater to many people’s needs. For example, for those that are storage conscious and were not fans of Samsung’s decision to remove external storage from the S6, will be glad to know that expandable storage is back.
However, one of the most talked about features was the fact that the new flagship from Samsung is now water resistant. Although this not a new feature to both Samsung and the rest of the smartphone industry, it is exciting to see the feature being bought back.
Previously, there were variants that Samsung offered that were water resistant. Firstly, there was the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. Which was a variation of the Galaxy S4 that compromised on specs. Then there was the Samsung Galaxy S5. This was the flagship for 2014 that used port covers to cover the device and give it the water resistant protection. Then, for 2015 when the all new designed Galaxy S6 was released, the water resistance was dropped from the device -which was a shame because the Galaxy S6 was a very well designed phone but it would have been nice to have the water resistance.
Now, the water resistance has been bought back to the Galaxy S7, and what’s more, is that the phones design did not have to be compromised. The Galaxy S7 has a similar design to the S6 whilst combining some design features from the Note 5. It’s also worth mentioning that there are no port covers on this device unlike other water resistant devices – which cause hassle when trying to access ports.
As always, people are keen to test out just how good the phone is at resisting water. So there have been videos of people testing out how it handles water and dust. One of the more interesting videos was of a person going for a swim with the phone and recording at the same time.
