Fast charging is becoming a standard feature we’re seeing in smartphones today, so it really isn’t a surprise to see the Samsung Galaxy S8 pack the feature. When you consider that previous Samsung phones also had that feature, we guess it was more or less to be expected that it would come with the feature as well.
That being said, there is one limitation that you should probably take note of. According to the folks at Phandroid, they have reminded users that the fast charging feature of the Galaxy S8 will only work if your screen is turned off. This means that if you want your device to charge quickly and take advantage of the feature, you can’t use it and charge it at the same time.
This isn’t to say you can’t charge and use the phone simultaneously, it’s just that doing so would negate the fast charging effect. You might be wondering what the big deal is and how fast does the phone really charge? According to Phandroid’s tests, they found that fast charging takes about 1 hour 37 minutes to charge up the device, but with the screen on it takes almost twice as long at 2 hours 51 minutes.
This isn’t really a deal-breaker but if you are a Galaxy S8/S8+ owner who needs to charge their phone in a pinch, then you might want to consider leaving the display off while it charges.
