Who likes belated Christmas presents? I’m sure every owner of the Galaxy SII will be after finding out that their 2yr-old device will be getting the almost-latest and greatest version of android, Jellybean 4.1.2. This update will not be an OTA, however. It will come as a manual update though Samsung Kies. It also will be a bit of a lengthy update process (they claim it will take about an hour) due to the system memory being reduced from 12GB to 11GB so that the subtracted 1GB can be used for system and memory partition.
Some of the features to be added to Samsung’s best-selling device:
- improved homescreens and scrolling
- Project Butter
- Preloaded Applications: Google+, +Talk, Play Books, Play Movies, Help
- Adds: Easy Mode & Blocking Mode
- Adds: Smart Stay
- Improved camera functions
The Galaxy S II features a 4.3″ SuperAMOLED+ display, an Exynos 4210 Dual-Core CPU (1.2GHz), a Mali-400 Quad-Core GPU with 1GB of RAM and an 8 megapixel camera to wrap it all up. No release date for the OS upgrade has been released just yet, but it can’t be far off, given this announcement. Cheers, Sammy!
