The XDA Developer community has yet to give up on Samsung’s old tablet, with a new ROM capable of updating the Android tablet to Android 4.3, the latest version of Jelly Bean. XDA also worked on the Android 4.2.1 update and successful ported the ROM onto the Galaxy Tab 8.9.
This does give the Galaxy Tab 8.9 a breathe of new life, but with most ROMs there is a few problems and this is no exception. The HDMI on the Galaxy Tab 8.9 does not work with the ROM, h0wever the WiFi does, something ROMs normally have trouble fixing.
The fix for the HDMI should come shortly, while XDA is not actively working on a fix, some clever developers have ported the newest version of Android 4.3 and the community is normally quick to fix bugs and make sure it looks and works like the real thing.
For the average user this may seem like a huge task, with flashing a ROM onto the tablet sounding like something made up. There is a learning curve and it’s pretty steep, but for people into computers, the ROM should not be that hard to install.
Samsung has not announced any news on the Galaxy Tab 8.9, so the best chance to grab the latest version of Android is through the XDA community’s ROM.
