Who knew that the runner genre of game play would become so popular? There is no shortage of runner type games in the Play Store. The game play is straightforward, your character is propelled ahead of you and all you have to do is either tap or swipe to stay alive. Terminus by Imaginary Computer takes things beyond the traditional game play and spins your environment around you as you are launched down a chamber. Guess what? It works.
When I first downloaded Terminus, I kind of knew what to expect. Again, there a lot of similar games out there. What surprised me was how well the game controls were implemented and how engaging the game play actually is even without a lot of back story.
Welcome to the futuristic infinite rotational runner TERMINUS. Defy gravity and destroy grid bugs and dodge obstacles at insane speeds. Collect gems to use to upgrade to one of 4 different ships. One mistake and you are terminated. – Imaginary Computer
As your spaceship is rapidly moving down a cylindrical core, you come in contact with grid bugs as well as laser beams that you must maneuver around. To aid you in upgrading to different ships, you collect gems. The controls consist of an arrow on each side of the screen so you can choose which way to rotate the core… not your ship. The option is also given to use the tilt feature (gyroscope) within your device. It is rare, but both options work extremely well, so it is up to you to choose what works best for you. The only other control required is tapping the screen for firing at the nasty bugs coming up the core. The ship auto fires, but sometimes you need to fire more quickly based on what is headed your way. There are also gates that must be opened by shooting at a red glowing orb. If you don’t hit it you are terminated by crashing into the gate.
Terminus has enjoyable game play and excellent controls. It is available now in the Play Store to download for free, which brings me to the only downside of the game, the ads. While there are no ads on the screen while you are playing the game, they do appear every time your ship is terminated. This takes away from the in game immersion because you have to close an ad each time which is pretty frustrating. If there is an unlock to pay for the game to get rid of the ads, I have not found it yet. Don’t let that keep you from downloading the game because it is fun. It definitely warrants a purchase if that were indeed possible.
