Chillingo works with a wide variety of indie developers in an attempt to let more people know about select small studio creations. At GDC 2015, Chillingo was showing of WarFriends, which is the latest game from the makers of Mega Dead Pixel. WarFriends is a definite divergent, and is quite an involved gaming experience. You get to battle head to head with another in a miniature war zone that provides focused combat. The game lets you control one main solider with specific weapons at your disposal to try to take out your opponent’s main solider.
What really enhances the game is the inclusion of card based units that you can tap to activate to enhance your onslaught. It’s great to fire away with a machine gun, sniper rifle, and rocket launcher, but even better to activate drones, tanks, and helicopters to automatically aid your war effort. There’s a relatively deluxe strategy set-up in play, but it’s all so accessible with the touch controls and fully contained war on one screen. As you would expect, and hope, WarFriends includes online multiplayer with either people you know, or random players with a matching system. In addition to the online multiplayer, there’s also a full single player campaign to go up against the AI. If that wasn’t enough, you can also play the campaign with online co-op to battle a more difficult AI with a friend. To further enhance WarFriends, there are five maps, as well as tons of weapons, squad members, and cards.
WarFriends is planned to be released in the summer, and it’s definitely a multiplayer experience to keep an eye out for.
