Inkle was a stand out at GDC with their great speaker sessions, and award nominations and win for 80 Days. They’re continuing to work on their text based adventures, and at GDC they were showing off Sorcery 3. The third part of Steve Jackson’s Sorcery will be coming in mid-April to iOS, and it will continue the story, but with all new flairs. The full Steve Jackson’s Sorcery is a four part series, and yet you don’t need to play one and two to jump in and start enjoying the upcoming Sorcery 3. There will be obvious benefits of experiencing Sorcery ($4.99, Universal) and Sorcery 2 ($4.99, Universal) though.
Sorcery 3 delivers the familiar fantasy cartography that the series is known for, but now there’s a two layer map. The map changes by time with the present day map overlaying the 1,000 years ago map. Time is distorted in the game, so that there are specific points in which you can cross between time, and even blend the two time periods. The map is even more involved, as it can use the time of day to give the player different content. Another emphasis of Sorcery 3 is that it’s more of an open world experience as compared to the first two that featured linear progression. The third installment will give players more choices for the progression of the story.
Enjoy our talk with Inkle as they show Sorcery 3 to us in the video below. We also took footage of Inkle winning the IGF award for excellence in narration.
