There are a number of Chinese smartphone manufacturers who are hitting the headlines regularly nowadays. UMi being a prime example. This is a company who brings to the market ultra-competitively priced handsets and a number of them which are very similar named like the UMi Touch and the UMi Touch X. While these are both smartphones that are designed to be ultra-affordable, there are some notable differences between the two and to help better understand those differences, here is quick overview.
The UMi Touch is certainly the more high-spec device and one of its biggest selling points is that it comes with a Touch ID-enabled fingerprint sensor. While in terms of the specs, the UMi Touch comes equipped with a 5.5-inch display which makes use of a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside, the UMi Touch comes loaded with 3GB RAM and is powered by a 64-bit MediaTek (MT6753) Octa-core processor. Storage comes in the form of 16GB internally and there is the option to expand thanks to the inclusion of a microSD card slot (up to 128GB). While on the camera side of things, the UMi Touch comes loaded with a 13-megapixel rear camera which is coupled with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Additional features include a 4,000 mAh battery, 4G LTE support, dual-SIM support and Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box. In terms of network compatibility, the UMi Touch is set to work with 2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, 3G: WCDMA 900/2100 MHz and 4G: FDD-LTE 800/1800/2600 MHz
While the UMi Touch X is not meant to be as powerful as the Touch, this is still a device which comes with some decent specs considering the cost. In fact, when it comes to the display, it is exactly the same, sporting the same 5.5-inch display and making use of the same 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside, is where you will begin to see some of the differences with this model coming equipped with 2GB RAM and being powered by a 64-bit MediaTek (MT6735) Quad-core processor. However storage is exactly the same with the Touch X also offering 16GB internally and microSD card expansion (up to 128GB). Cameras are a noticeably different area with the Touch X coming equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. While the rest of the additional features (barring Touch ID) remains the same and includes a 4,000 mAh battery, 4G LTE support, dual-SIM support and Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). Network compatibility is listed as 2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, 3G: WCDMA 900/2100 MHz and 4G: FDD-LTE 800/1800/2600 MHz.
So while these are different range devices, the difference between them mainly comes down to the RAM, processor and cameras. What makes them both such a good value is that they are so low in price that even between them, the difference in price is minimal. Those looking for the lower-spec UMi Touch X can currently pre-order the handset for only $129.99. However, those looking for the higher-spec UMi Touch can currently pick it up through GearBest for only $139.99. To be fair, this is a sale that GearBest is currently running on this handset, as the Touch is normally priced at around the $200 marker. But whichever way you look at it and whatever device you are more inclined towards, they are both excellent value for money.
