Just recently, GelaSkins announced their expansion into the iPhone case market. Now that we’ve gotten our hands on a couple of GelaSkins Hard Cases, we can say they’ve done so quite nicely. GelaSkins made a name for themselves by selling artistic, scratch-resistant “skins”, or reusable stickers for iPhones and other mobile devices. While the Hard Case variety is not that of the Skin variety just yet, the hip and picturesque designs are definitely on par.
The actual form of the case is pretty basic, but it’s the print and the quality that sets the GelaSkins Hard Case apart. The case is made of a one-piece durable polycarbonate shell, which iPhone snaps into. We love these types of cases because the entire top and bottom of iPhone is exposed, while still covering the corners. An exposed top and bottom does sacrifice a bit of protection, but it makes the case so much more accommodating for using various charging cables and docks, using different headphones, and accessing the lock button.
The GelaSkin Hard Case is plenty protective and durable, except the case just barely surpasses iPhone’s screen. With this case you may want to consider a screen protector. The fit of the case is perfect and maintains a very sleek finish and a comfortable, lightweight, feel.
We really can’t stress how amazing some of the GelaSkins Hard Case designs are; the artwork is a thing of beauty. They’re all worth checking out before making a purchasing decision. The Hard Case selection even includes designs from the popular eBoy and tokidoki series. iPhone 3G/3GS cases run $29.95 while iPhone 4/4S (all carriers) cases run $34.95. We reviewed Tim Burton’s Stain Boy case, which does not seem to be available yet, and also the Intermezzo iPhone case, which really pops aesthetically. Each case includes a bio about the artist and gives you full access to the GelaSkins Wallpaper Gallery to download the matching iPhone wallpaper.
The Good: High Quality Look and Feel, Amazing Designs, Variety, Not Bulky, Comfortable, Great Cutouts for Ports and Buttons, Easy to Snap On
The Bad: Screen Protection is Minimal, Removing Case Takes Practice
