Virtual reality is the future, and giants such as Sony, Google, Microsoft, and even Facebook are betting big on the newfangled tech. If you want a taste of the adrenaline-pumping, 360-degree action that VR has to offer, Samsung currently has one of the best promos you can find. If you purchase a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge through Samsung, you’ll receive a Gear VR and a slew of bonus VR content for free.
We got some hands on time with the new Gear VR back in August and found that it’s the best way to experience virtual reality on your phone. Just snap your Galaxy device into the headset, and the headset will use your smartphone’s screen and processing power to create an immersive VR experience. As far as content is concerned, the Gear VR uses the Oculus app store, which currently houses about 250 games and apps.
Getting your free Gear VR headset is pretty straightforward, too. Purchase or lease a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone through October 9, submit an offer claim with a photo of your receipt by October 17, and your offer will be reviewed by Samsung within four to six weeks. Once your claim is approved, you should receive your Gear VR within 12 weeks.
Alternatively, you can opt to receive a 256GB memory card, or a $100 Samsung.com eCertificate. If you purchased a Galaxy S7 Active, though, you’ll only be eligible to receive a 256GB memory card (valued at $250) because the S7 Active is not compatible with the Samsung Gear VR.
To receive your bonus VR content (valued at $50), you’ll need to create a free Oculus account. Afterward, your content will automatically appear in the Oculus app with a “download” option instead of a “purchase” option. Once downloaded to your library, it’s yours to keep. Just make sure to download it before February 28, which is the date the free downloads expires.
