GetJar, the world’s largest independent app store, has launched a new initiative for Android users that earns them virtual currency when they splash out on paid-for apps.
Dubbed GetJar Gold, it awards customers credit when they download Android apps on Android Market and Amazon Appstore. You can then spend your “gold” on in-app purchases from participating games and apps or splash out on some brand-new purchases.
Funding is solely from publishers who want to promote their apps on GetJar. The GetJar SDK allows devs to build in Gold functionality and exchange any earned Gold into real-world cash.
CEO Ilja Laurs said: “The virtual nature of the currency and its linking to the global advertising spend solve two major problems that the traditional billing platforms have struggled with – low conversions due to the complicated user experience, and the lack of access to global markets.
“Our early results are showing significant increases in both revenue and conversion, and we expect developers will experience an increase of up to 10 times for participating.”
Sounds like a tempting offer for any dedicated downloader…
