Google had a very busy day today. The company unveiled its new flagship Pixel smartphones, the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3XL. But the company also dropped a brand new member of the family: the Google Pixel Slate.
Announcing its release Google said: “Google Pixel Slate is designed to entertain and help you do more in a fresh, mobile form. We combined a touch-first user interface, optimized Android apps and powerful desktop-style features in Chrome OS to deliver a no-compromise device.”
If you’re a Google fan and are looking for a new tablet, the Slate may just be for you. Let’s take a look at its offerings.
Google Pixel Slate: Tech Specs
There are actually four models of the Pixel Slate–but they all feature many of the same specs, including that beautiful 12.3in display. The differences in the four models come from the amount of installed RAM, storage, and the processors.
The entry-level Slate features an Intel® Celeron® Processor and either 4GB or 8GB of RAM and comes in 32GB or 64GB configurations, while the other three models all feature 8GB or 16GB of RAM and 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB of storage. Those three models also come with either an m3, i5, or i7 processor.

Google Pixel Slate: Design
All Pixel feature the same design. As Google describes it, “Pixel Slate feels great in your hands thanks to its evenly balanced center of gravity, rounded edges and curved 2.5D glass. At just 7mm thin and 1.6 lbs with a display that covers nearly the entire front of the device, Pixel Slate was designed to maximize what matters most to you.
“Movies, photos and games come to life in brilliant resolution with Pixel Slate. We engineered the device with a stunning, detailed display so sitting back to enjoy a movie is better than ever. The all-new Molecular Display packs 293 pixels per inch—that’s 6 million pixels—for the sharpest picture.”
The bummer here is that the Slate only comes in one color: Midnight Blue.
Google Pixel Slate: Chrome OS
It should be no surprise the Slate runs Chrome OS–but it's been reimagined for the touchscreen, Google says. “It makes getting things done easy, with the Google Assistant built in, a new launcher, machine learning-generated suggestions for the apps you use most, and multitasking tools like split screen. It's also got a full desktop Chrome browser—with all your favorite extensions—so you won’t be limited by the mobile version of a website on Pixel Slate.”
The OS is also capable of running all GSuite apps online or off–and you can even run LINUX on the Slate if you choose.
Google Pixel Slate: Price & Release Date
There’s no official release date for the Slate yet–Google is only saying it will come later this year. As for pricing, the Slate will start at £549 and go all the way up to the £1,600 range for the high-end model.
