Google Maps 6.9 Update Breaks Offline Availability for Many
So, if you haven’t heard about Google Maps, then you must have been living under a rock for the last few years. Google Maps has been the pioneer when it comes to making an application that is can not only give you turn by turn directions, but also provide one of the best offline map experiences when you are traveling and may run into an area that does not have the best of service.
Recently there was an update to Maps (version 6.9, to be exact) that has broke the ability for many countries to save maps for offline viewing. This is very disappointing considering that many people that do hiking, bike riding or just nature explorers will not have the ability and be able to take a map offline.
For now, if you can no longer save maps for offiline viewing don’t toss the app away and move to another map program. Simply go into the Application menu on your device and uninstall the latest update to revert to the old version for the time being. Problem solved!
