Last week, Google gave rideshare services their own Google Maps tab on Android. That same feature has now arrived on iOS.
If you live in the US, it doesn’t change that much; the tab will currently just show taxi times from Uber. Elsewhere though, you’ll have additional options: 99Taxis in Brazil, Ola Cabs in India, Hailo in the UK and Spain, Mytaxi in Germany and Spain and Gett in the UK.
More importantly, it’s a sign Google is looking to branch out from just offering Uber, and that it sees taxi apps playing a much more prominent role in people’s lives in the years to come; giving ridesharing its own tab put its on the same same visual plane as driving or public transport.
That said, for those of you using Uber, Google will now provide different prices for UberXL and UberBLACK instead of only Uber X, so you are getting a few more details than before.
There’s one extra tidbit in the update: you can now use Spotlight search to find your saved placed or places you recently looked at in Google Maps, which could save you a couple of seconds when trying to get directions in a hurry.
