Supposedly there are no changes other than providing (better) support for Verizon, but it's always a good idea to keep up and have the latest available software installed if you're using a Nexus device. Installing it the official way will wipe all of your data, but there are a few tricks that can be used to get around that.
Of course, it's intended purpose is to have a simple path back to the latest firmware if you have altered yours, and it certainly will do that. If it were me, I'd just wait for the OTA on this one if you haven't already received it. You adventurous types can download it from the source link below and have at it.
