An ESRB leak last week suggested that Grandia III would be the next updated PlayStation 2 game to make the leap to the PlayStation 4. However, as it would happen, it was only intended for a PlayStation 3 release, and the ESRB rating was incorrect.
No trophies, no upscaled resolution, no modern console support. Just a good ol’ fashioned PlayStation 2 Classic release on the PlayStation 3. Perfectly fine in my book but not what a lot of people are looking for these days.
Grandia III takes the adventure to the skies, putting you in the role of Yuki, a young man with dreams of flying his own plane. He soon comes into contact with a young girl named Alfina, a Communicator who can speak with the Guardians–giant beastlike gods who protect the citizens. As the world faces the greatest danger it has ever known, can a would-be pilot and an inexperienced Communicator save them all?
The ESRB rating has been updated to reflect the proper console, so I wouldn’t expect more out of this. If GungHo still views the PlayStation 3 as a viable platform to release classics on, though, then both Lunar and Lunar 2 would be much more warmly welcomed than Grandia III.
