Okay, imagine your ex is getting married to someone you know. Imagine this someone is in your group of friends - not someone you’re close with but someone who is in your friend group nonetheless. Ugh. I mean, it’s fine if you’re seriously over your ex, but you know people will still wonder whether you really are, which is so annoying because how can you convince them that you really really are? Maybe by agreeing to be a bridesmaid at the wedding. And that’s how the new Cosmo Red-Hot Read from Harlequin begins. The book is called Ripped, by USA Today best-selling author Sarah Morgan. The main character Hayley Miller is a super-smart engineer who has everything together except her love life (sound familiar, ladies? It’s a common affliction that most of us have had some experience with!). Hayley finds herself not only being invited to her ex's wedding, but also her “friend” Cressida, the bride, actually asks her to be a bridesmaid. She decides to go through with it to prove that her candle for her ex, Charlie, is officially extinguished. But the awful dress Cressida has chosen for her bridesmaids is actually way too tight for Hayley’s curvaceous body (do you think maybe Cressida did that on purpose, to be sure Hayley looked less than her best? You would be right). While she’s standing at the altar, the ultimate wardrobe malfunction occurs: the dress splits open, exposing Hayley’s top half to the entire congregation. Cue superhero music… sexy Italian best man Nico Rossi comes to the rescue by covering Hayley up with his tuxedo jacket and whisking her out of the back of the church. Nico has always treated Hayley as though he can’t stand her… but what she thinks is disdain is actually simmering sexual tension. After exchanging some choice words, their argument morphs into a magnetic, animalistic make out session right then and there. They manage to pull themselves apart to get back to the wedding before people start talking. But then, on Christmas Day, Nico shows up at Hayley’s flat (did I mention this all takes place in London? Somehow that just makes the story even hotter, am I right?) and they pick up where they left off, spending the day enjoying some, um, holiday festivities. Hayley thinks it’s just a fling and expects Nico’s interest to fade by New Years’ Day. But as the week keeps going, she wonders if she’ll really be able to quit this guy cold turkey… Oh, just so you know, the title Ripped refers not just to Hayley’s bridesmaid dress but to Nico’s body too… did I mention he’s super gorgeous? That’s right: Italian. Gorgeous. Living in London. Yes, please!
