Susan Schulz, Editorial Brand Director for Cosmopolitan magazine, gives Kindle the scoop on the latest releases in Cosmopolitan's new partnership with Harlequin.
Happy New Year, you lovers of sexy little short reads! I know those first two weeks after the holidays can be tough. You’ve got to gear up and get back up to full speed as fast as possible—which takes a lot of focus. But now that you’ve done that, you deserve to kick back a bit and treat yourself, ladies. And I’ve got just the thing—completely delicious and calorie-free (just in case your New Year’s resolution was to drop those few extra holiday pounds). Indulge yourself in the two brand-new titles we’ve just released from Cosmo’s Red-Hot Reads from Harlequin. The first is called 10 Ways to Handle the Best Man by Heidi Rice. If you’re a to-do list maker like I am, you’ll totally relate to the lead character, Sabrina Millard. She’s the organized one among her friends—she makes a list and creates a well-thought-out plan for everything in her life, and that includes her approach to being her best friend’s maid of honor. But here’s the rub: the best man, Connor McCoy, is not only out-of-control sexy and out-of-control cocky, he’s also the kind of guy who never met a rule he didn’t love to break. He knows how “by the book” Sabrina is and he’s bent on getting her to relax a bit… and every time she resists that only makes him want to try harder. For anyone who ever fantasizes about throwing all caution to the wind (who doesn’t?) you’ll love this fast, funny—and yes, hot!—little read.
And once you’ve finished that bonbon, pop another one: Her Valentine Fantasy by Nancy Warren. It starts like this: It’s right before Valentine’s Day and Jessica Lafayette is on a terrible first date at Benedict restaurant, a five star establishment. The jerk of a guy has the gall to make an excuse after dinner and bolt out—leaving her with the bill! She’s so taken aback that she accidentally leaves her hotel room card key instead of her credit card in the black bill folder, then walks out before she pays. Her sexy waiter could be annoyed, but he’s intrigued by this beautiful woman who was so unceremoniously and undeservedly dumped. He has to follow up to settle the bill anyway, so he heads to her hotel with the chocolate and raspberry dessert she’d ordered. Feeling embarrassed at what she’d done, and because he was sweet to bring her the dessert, and because she figures, What the heck, this guy is hot!, Jessica invites him up to her room to fulfill her fantasy of having a one-night stand with a hot stranger. But that’s just the beginning of the story. Because the twist to this crazy “meet cute” is that the waiter is Sam Benedict—owner of the restaurant, who sometimes chooses to wait tables incognito as a means of quality control. And Jessica isn’t from out of town, as Sam assumes by the fact that she’s staying in a hotel—she was running a trade show nearby and needed to be near the site for a few days. So unlike a one-night stand, the chances that these two will meet again are pretty high… The thing I love about this story is that the chapters alternate with Sam and Jessica’s voices, so you get to hear exactly what Sam is thinking as the events unfold. Hey, it’s always a bonus to know what a guy is thinking, isn’t it? If only it could be that way in real life!
Have fun with these, and I’ll be back next month with two new extra-hot numbers to keep you feeling more than warm on these cold winter nights. Ciao for now!
