The annual evening of all that’s evil is almost upon us, the night we lock our doors, close the curtains, kill the lights and sit silently pretending the house is empty, shaking in the fear that a hellacious, hungry hand will come a’knocking. Yes, the trick or treaters will be around soon, so you’d better make yourself busy…
It may seem largely unnecessary for an app that involves killing the undead to release a Halloween special which replaces the undead with, erm, the undead. But, fearing that tarring all the members of the ‘differently alive’ with the same brush may be seen as racist, I for one applaud PNIX Games in bringing grave-dodging diversity to its app, even if for a limited time only.
So, you have the basics – it’s Halloween, all manner of monsters are on the loose, covering Frankenalikes, ghouls, ghosts, goblins, reapers, pumpkin-headed wotnot and, of course, with it being Halloween, sexy witches (I know…), and most of them are making a bloody minded blood in minded beeline for you. Fortunately, you’re just the kind of good old fashioned psychopath who only goes out armed to the teeth, so you’re well-equipped to deal with them… for a while at least.
A simple static shoot ’em up with some superbly spooky Hell-swine to slay, quick reactions and an accurate aim will secure the points needed to top up the ammo, upgrade the guns and sort out some slo-mo but, of course, a freemium app, if you want to get the big guns and really have a good time, the real fear you’ll need to overcome is the abominable in-app purchase…
THE BOTTOM LINE
Monstrously entertaining, even if only momentarily, Gun Zombie: Halloween is an excellent pick up and play in-betweener app. With good graphics but gameplay that gets repetitive it’s still an excellent alternative to opening the door to costumed kids with egging intentions.
