Fancy yourself as a bit of a sharp shooter with an eye for the 8-bit and the requisite skills to render your own arms out of some unassembled blocks? Then you’ve got yourself a gun and open season access to an online shoot-out of epic proportions…
Much fuss was made recently when some silly sod in the otherwise normally side-arm spurning USA posted schematics on how to 3D print a working handgun online, causing wannabe crime kingpins everywhere to rush to Staples to stock up on toner cartridges, or ‘ammo’ as they probably threateningly referred to it. Well, the initial stage here feels somewhat similar to that process, as you build your first boom-stick from an assortment of blocks on a gridded board, which is how I imagine the production of a printed pistol would look.
Once tooled up with your homemade hand-cannon, it’s time to crack open a door to an online arena and shoot the breeze and, indeed, the blocks inside a virtual reality range, picking off the targets faster than your opponent, whether they’re standing still or on the move, earning the points needed to upgrade your blocky bullet-dispenser, building it even bigger and better from a simple single barrelled lead-spitter to a brutal double-barrelled brick-brutaliser.
With ample areas to explore down the sights of your strap (that’s one’s proper gang-slang), control comes via VR, which can be a touch confusing at first but soon becomes second nature, whilst your options are to either go head-to-head with an online player of the app’s choosing or go all-out in a multiplayer melee of target-taking lead-slinging. Either way you’ll soon see why over 20 million people are playing!
THE BOTTOM LINE
Original and inventive, Guncrafter is far from just another gratuitous gun-runner, requiring an intense attention to your aim, an expert equilibrium of speed and control, and a masterly command of construction, this is a true test of your app aptitude and the most fun you can really have with a gun.
