There are plenty of photo editing apps for iOS, but they all seem to focus on just one task. AntiCrop, and TouchReTouch are two such apps that offer one function, but do it extremely well. The developers of the two high quality photo editing apps now have a brand new one that takes iOS photo editing up a notch. Handy Photo just launched, and it delivers the qualities of AntiCrop and TouchReTouch as well as a few other photo editing techniques all in one. We previewed the app at MacWorld, and now Handy Photo is available with functions that are normally reserved for desktop photo editing tools that cost hundreds of dollars, like Photoshop.
First, and foremost, Handy Photo includes the powerful ReTouch technique allowing you to highlight an object you want to remove from an image, and that intelligently removes it while filling in the background. It’s a brilliant piece of technology, and they have extended it with a new function in Handy Photo known as the Move Me tool. With Move Me, you can highlight any object, and then drag, and drop it to another region of the photo, or even move it to another photo entirely. Both features are so easy to use, and they might be even easier than their desktop counterparts thanks to the ability to simply draw over the object with your finger. There’s also a lasso tool to highlight an object, and the app uses a magnifier to let you see where you’re drawing your lasso up close, while making sure your finger isn’t in the way.
Handy Photo also features a clone stamp tool allowing you to highlight one region, and draw that region over another part of the photo. Since it’s from the developer of AntiCrop, that function is built in, and now called Magic Crop. It’s the same function allowing you to extend the borders of your photo with the app intelligently filling in the edges. Magic Crop also allows you to straighten a photo, with the new additions filling in based on the surroundings of the image. All of these functions are extremely powerful photo editing tools, and not only are they available on iOS, but also made for touch to be accessible to anyone.
There are not only deluxe editing features that seem like magic, but also the photo editing tools you have come to expect. You can change the colors and tones of your photos by simply swiping your finger across the screen. Handy Photo also features 20 detailed photo effects with some of them seen individually in other apps. You can apply HDR, sketch, halftone, cross process, and even tiny planet effects among others. The quality of the filters is what really stands out with just so much detail, and that applies to the over 90 textures included as well. All of the editing features can be reverted, and you get to work with the full image size up to 36 megapixels, pinching to zoom as much as you want. There’s also a time machine function allowing you to reverse individual edits, and the entire interface is based on wheel sliders on the corners of the screen.
Handy Photo ($1.99, Universal) may be the most valuable app in the App Store with the bang for your buck in terms of the deluxe features included for the minimal price. It’s such a feature rich application with all of it made for touch, that allows anyone to actually enjoy editing photos. Handy Photo is an absolute must buy that delivers an amazing photo editing package perfectly suited for iOS at such a low price.
