Recently, Hike Messenger acquired US based voice-calling firm Zip Phone. Hike Messenger, so called the OTT(over-the-top) service, is backed by Bharti Softbank, a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Japan’s SoftbankCorp. Hike was launched in December 2012 and has over 35 million users. 2015 has already began with bang for this India’s homegrown app and it continues to accelerate.
Today, the company announced the roll-out of free voice calling to its Android app. The company also mentioned that, since 90% of its user base is on Android, this launch was specific to Android and will bring the ‘Hike Calls‘ feature by the end of Q1 2015, on iOS and Windows phone.
Using the Hike Calls feature, you will now be able to call users across the globe in over 200 countries over 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi networks. This feature has been optimized for low bandwidth networks too.
To use this feature, just install the updated version of Hike Messenger, click on the user whom you wish to speak to and; on the top bar of the chat screen, you will able to see the dial icon.
